This set is used to test Cylinder Compression on EMD 567, 645 and 710 Engines. These sets have proven their value to diagnose low compression on individual power assemblies. Readings below 270 PSI may be viewed as low. The set contains eight individual T50213 Compression Testers and a padded hard plastic storage box.
Problems found include liner scoring, worn rings, loose piston crowns, chipped valves and cuts in the valve seats. It is important to remove these assemblies as they burn fuel inefficiently and elevate exhaust temperature.
Testers are typically used a bank at a time or as an engine set. Once installed on the engine the operator must prevent the engine from starting. The batteries are used to crank the engine to trap readings. If a power assembly is identified as being low a second test should be performed with a reliable tester (new preferable) to duplicate the reading, and if the readings are consistent the power assembly should be removed.
